Crisis Pregnancy

Making an INFORMED Decision

The decision whether to abort, raise your baby or to release your child for adoption is a difficult decision that will require careful consideration.  Of course an unwanted pregnancy is a frightening experience and the idea of a quick and easy way to become "un-pregnant" will seem attractive.  However, abortion carries consequences that will last a lifetime.

Are you feeling afraid and alone due to an unplanned pregnancy?  If so, you may have a hard time admitting you're pregnant but eventually you will need to weigh your alternatives.  This should be done based on information rather than just your emotions.

If you are considering an abortion, you need to take into careful consideration the emotional risks involved as well as the physical risks involved.  Some questions you may want to ask a doctor before following through with an abortion are:

  1. Will it hurt?

  2. What options & supportive services are available to me if I choose not to abort.

  3. What is the fetus like right now?  What can it do?  What can it feel?

  4. What are the chances that I will experience an of the following problems?

  • Retained Products of Conception
  • Damage to the cervix
  • Hemorrhage
  • Infection
  • Perforation of the Uterus
  • Sterility
  • Complications of future pregnancies
  • Depression
  • Anniversary Syndrome
  • Sexual Dysfunction
  • Suicidal Thoughts
  • Interference with personal relationships

   5.  Will you treat me for complications?

   6.  If I need to be hospitalized, at which hospital do you have
        privileges?

If you decide to choose an abortion, you will want to keep a permanent record of what the doctor told you.  Some of the effects of an abortion may not show up for several years and you will want evidence of what the doctor told you on record.

Before you choose, make sure you carefully examine all your options.  Don't let anyone pressure you into making a hasty decision that you might regret later.   A real choice is an INFORMED choice!
